Septic Tanks Maintenance

Why Maintain Your Septic System?

TASKS YOU REALLY DON'T WANT TO DO are, however, very necessary to protect your health and home, avoid failures, and to reduce you repair costs. Hire a professional for scheduled preventative maintenance on you septic system.
Have your nonmechanical systems inspected every 1-2 years, and have your tank pumped every 2-3 years, or as recommended by an onsite professional. Have mechanical system inspected at frequencies ranging from once a month to once ever 6 months depending on the complexity of the system.

PREVENTATIVE MAINTENANCE of onsite systems should be as routine as regular car maintenance. Proper maintenance can prolong the life of your system exponentially, thereby saving you money.
Just as you should have the oil changed in your car on a regular basis, you should have your septic tank pumped every 2-5 years. Just as you should have your car inspected every 1-2 years, you should also have your onsite system inspected every 1-2 years.

PROTECT YOUR HEALTH by properly maintaining your onsite system. A failed system can cause serious health and environmental problems for you, your family, and your community.
When a system fails, it can release untreated wastewater into the ground, or on the surface. This untreated wastewater can be tracked into your home, leach into the groundwater, contaminating nearby wells and other water sources. Not only is the thought of this nauseating, it can prove fatally toxic.

REDUCE REPAIR COSTS by avoiding, or at least delaying, failure of your system or its components. The repair of a failing onsite system can be very expensive - sometimes costing more than your original system.

Replacement systems have cost between $10,000 and $100,000. Worse, it may not even be possible to repair or replace the system. In order to replace a system, your old system must first be properly abandoned. A new system must be designed, permitted, and installed. Also, any contamination caused by the old system must be remedied.

SCHEDULED PROFESSIONAL MAINTENANCE helps you avoid much of the repair costs, health risks, and the hassle of working on a septic system.

If you properly maintain your system, it should last for a very long time, and cost you much less money and anxiety. If you do not, then your system could fail at any time, and you might not even know until it's too late.
